Snowdan to Ibans: don’t abandon BN

KUCHING: The Iban community should not and could not afford to abandon the State Barisan Nasional in the coming state election otherwise they will suffer and be left behind in various fields of endeavour.

The terse warning came from the state assemblyman for Balai Ringin Snowdan Lawan at a dinner organised by the Siol Kandis branch of Sarawak Dayak National Union last night.

“We will suffer if we abandon the State Barisan Nasional. This is because the state Barisan has been in Sarawak for nearly 50 years and has good track records.

“To me the state BN government is just like a university. It is just like Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard universities, and the older they are the more prestigious and famous they become.

“So is the State Barisan Nasional which is not only well known, famous and prestigious, but it has also a good track records in terms of developing the state,”
he said, urging them not to listen to certain quarters which wanted to introduce new ideas and bring changes to the state.

Snowdan’s remarks were an obvious response to the recent call made by Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Baru Bian, for a change in the government in the state.

Bian had said that their forefathers had agreed to join Sabah, Singapore and Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia because they had high hopes that Sarawak would one day enjoy greater economic development, prosperity and security.

“But for 47 years under the Barisan Nasional, their dreams and visions had not been achieved. This was because Sarawak was neglected by the Barisan Nasional.

“We must therefore change the current leadership and replace it with the Pakatan Rakyat government,”
Bian had said.

Snowdan, who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s deputy secretary general said: “It will be a fatal mistake, if you support the opposition; it is just like building a new university which records are uncertain and it will take at least 50 years to achieve the desired results.

“What we should do is for us to replace the lecturers if they are not good rather than getting rid of the university and build a new one.

“So I appeal to you not to change the State BN government and opt for the inexperienced Opposition or we will suffer in the next 50 years,”
he stressed.

The opposition could only promise new ideas and changes, but the Ibans had to be wary of their sweet talks, he added.- The Broken Shield

Snowdan was "Misquoted" when he said “We will suffer if we abandon the State Barisan Nasional. This is because the state Barisan has been in Sarawak for nearly 50 years and has good track records.

The "correct" text should read "
“We will suffer NO MORE if we abandon the State Barisan Nasional. This is because the state Barisan has been in Sarawak for nearly 50 years and has good track records for the wrong reasons - DEPRIVING THE DAYAKS OF THEIR RIGHTS THRU THE GOVERNMENT'S TRUSTED AND EFFECTIVE AGENCY DTA(DAYAK TRAITOR'S AGENCY)headed by non other than the Yangdikasihi.

Snowdan-Wrong spelling. It should be snow down and this name sound like a clown. Snowdown is good at making a politics of fears among Dayak.

Balai Ringgin voters should vote him out in the next state election. He is an outsider. People in Balai Ringgin need basic amenities but not entertain with concerts.

It is obviously that BN still use this scaremongering tactics to stay in power. The rural voters were the victms especially the Dayaks.

The Ibans do not owe their live to BN. Ibans have abandoned their religion in the past, now and in the future and what is there to abandon a political party. This statement refers to Iban Christian who had converted to Muslim for various reasons. So, I for one believe that religion is far above politic but some of us Ibans still abandon it.

Any political parties which would form a government is obligated to ensure the welfare of her rakyat. If the Ibans adandoned the BN and by doing so PR would be able to form the next government in Sarawak, I believe Sarawak will be better administered. Look at Penang, Kelantan, Kedah and Selangor. In these states, we seldom hear of cases of corruption, misuse of power, nepotism and cronyism which are rampant in Sarawak. An outstanding example is the State's acquisition of Dayaks' NCR for various reasons.

Of course, I do not blame Snowdan for saying what he had said as he must do all things possible to ensure his victory in the up-coming election. However, we Ibans must keep our option open. Is what BN had done for us for the past 47 years (1963-2010) sufficient or not? I beg all Ibans who read this comment, to give a deep thoughts to the questions/statements below:

1. Do we have equivalent participation in the government service?

2. In the Armed Forces, we have only one Colonel as the highest rank - is it fair and reasonable?

3. Our NCR are robbed right before our eyes and while our present Iban YBs including Snowdan is not even heard or seen to stop the looting. Baru Bian had done so much to represent our Iban in their NCR court cases against the State Government.

4. Islam is not the official religion in Sarawak, yet our churches are not given sufficient degree of assistance. Our Malay version Bibles had been confiscated. Are we given unhindered freedom of religion?

5. Remember the case of Marina Undau from Sri Aman where she is deemed not a Bumiputra. An Iban house buyer in Malacca was also not accorded Bumiputra status.

6. Refer to the 18 points agreement between Malaya and Sarawak, is it followed religiously?

7. The current BN government does not respect our Adat at all by bull dozing Iban's longhouse.

8. Adnan Satem used to say that the worst Malay is better than Iban. How would you feel? Nothing at all like our Iban YBs? For me, I will remember this for the rest of my life and I have told the same to my sons and daughters. Adnan Satem's statement is a reflection of arrogance and an indicator of state policy towards the Ibans - a policy of discrimination, suppression and nepotism. Imagine, what he will do to the Ibans should he be the one who is going to replace Taib. Ibans will be further suppressed.

9. After 47 years of BN rule, you tell me, how many Iban millionaires we have?

10. The State Government leader was responsible for the demised of SNAP and PBDS. It stopped MDC from being registered. THESE ARE all the efforts to suppress the Ibans.

11. If PR formed a government in Sarawak, some of the promises are:
a. 20% oil royalty
b. Borneonization of civil services
c. all NCR will be given titles
d. fairness for all races

The above are just some of the predicaments which just can't escape my mind and do you feel the same or not?

apai irau said...

Another nonsense from a YB.How can you compare your BN to a university.Your BN is to supress knowledge while a university gives knowledge.Secondly, your BN YBs are no compare to university's lecturers; how can the oppositions maintain the name BN if they win the state election as you said we can change the lecturers/YBs but maintain the name BN,a pure nonsense.A new university is equally good as the old one, depends on the lecturers but an old university having rotten lecturers like BN YBs also useless.YB Snow, stop bullshitting. Please show the rakyat the statistics of the followings, namely;number of longhouses having no acess road, electricity and treated water supply, proportion of the Ibans compare to other races in the civil service, percentage of the Ibans having access to business opportunities compare to other races, who are the poorest races in Malaysia.Show it and then explain what has the BN done for the last 47 years.

Apai Semalau said...

This Yb. is a joke. Voters in Balai Ringin should seriously consider removing this DUN representative to save themselves from another 50 years of suffering.
Quote "......the state Barisan has been in Sarawak for nearly 50 years and has good track records".
What bullshit is is talking about? If the track record is a good as he made it why are there still so much poverty in the rural dayak areas including those of his constituency. After 50 years why are there so many longhouses without basic amenities like pipe water and electricity? Haven't we suffered long enough?
Maybe this Yb. would like to give us a resume of his own track record as Yb. of Balai Ringin.
Is BN grabbing NCR land a good track record????

Snowdan, your comparison of BN with Harvard, Oxford & Cambridge is totally intellectually backward. Harvard, Oxford & Cambridge are universities that promote openess in thinking, encourage their students to challenge the norms, teaches their students to be morally right, educate world leaders, etc. You as a BN rep on the other hand wants our community to be inward thinking, stop us from listening to others, corrupt us by buying vote, your father want to form a dynasty by putting you as a candidate, etc. Sorry, you tried to impress by talking about Harvard, Oxford & Cambridge but you are not even a university graduate. Balai Ringin has many graduates from well established universities. Please stop bullshitting.

What YB Snowdan means is 'if you all abandon BN I will suffer'. Any fool knows that

Anonymous said...

Talking rubbish like a six-year boy. The longer the BN stay in power, the poorer the state will become. He thinks he can fool the rural people into supporting the BN.

Banting said...

BN ministers including this boy have been telling the world that state BN government has been fair to all races, without marginalising any race in its politics of development. BUT why more Dayaks are still living in poverty as compared to other races?

Why do some Penans are still practising nomadic life and not settling down, facing starvation attributed to logging activities? Official statistics indicate around 10,000 of them are believed not in possession of MyKad as reported in the media last year? Jabu said he had been helping the Penans for 30 years, but why 10,000 of them are still not carrying identity cards?

When only 40 per cent of the allocations were spent on specific projects by the state government and the remaining 60 per cent is leaked out, is it responsible government, Mr. Snowdan?

If the rivers used for daily consumption, bathing and washing by the residents of the longhouses are full of leeches, is it politics of development or politics of ignorance?

Come on boy, be realistic when talking!

This spoil brat is only trying to frighten the Ibans. Since most of them are uneducated, he will be delighted to see his rice bowl intact.
For 46 long years what have this gov't done to help the Ibans. Ask this brat if he can show us .He knows only nuts. As he is also a uneducated, all he is to give some dirty notes and the Ibans are been fooled into voting him.
Today he is too proud and he feel he is the saviour of the Ibans becos he got a chinese wife.
I urge the Ibans to reject this spoil brat or otherwise he will lead them to their grave.

An Iban like Snowdan is best to be fed to the dogs for insulting his own community and taking them for a ride in order to serve his own selfish interest. Voters in Balai Ringin must reject him and send him back to where he should rightly belong in the pubs or karaokes in the city.

Baru Bian's actions and victories in the Courts over NCR Land disputes deserve a big hand from every patriotic Sarawakian.
He has walked the talk and proved that - "the easiest way for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Baru Bian is a God-fearing true native of Sarawak. He protects our land and our rights which the BN Leaders and cronies don't even RESPECT !
I believe we should give Pakatan a chance to govern us. They CANNOT be worse than what we have been going through over the last few decades. Under BN, our education system is going downhill - our University rankings are testimony to this. Just look at St. Joseph's School - pathetic !
Change is Good - it promotes healthy competition and the best always prevail ! Good for our country too ! That's PATRIOTISM !

Give YB Snowdon a chance. He is still young and born with a silver platter from a (BN) well rewarded family. Do not expect much from him as he never experience the hard life of an ordinary struggling dayak.

Thank you

“To me the state BN government is just like a university. It is just like Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard universities, and the older they are the more prestigious and famous they become."
- There's just no other word to better describe the level of intelligence of this "very very very the kampong" ASSemblymen, which is a 100% PURELY CONCENTRATED PLAIN IDIOT!!!! Who is he kidding with here? Is he implying that the older the wiser? (with some exception to the wine/tuak/xo off course...) At some points, maybe yes, but not most of the time!!! Is he saying that Malaya University(MU) is better just because its 'older'? Is he saying that UNIMAS is far more immature in terms of education quality, compared to MU just because UNIMAS is younger than MU? It's funny when MU can't even make it into the top 200 world ranking (can't even beat Mahidol University of Thailand which is in the top 20 ranking in ASEAN region). Credentials are not based on the age a person, but the afterwards of their doing as there is no point of becoming old when your committed a brainless act(like Mr Snowman). So people, please dont send your children to any school/uni that are younger than Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard, otherwise your children would be a less quality person. I wonder which school/uni did Mr snowman attended to... Skul high high...but no brain...or maybe no skul at all...

“So I appeal to you not to change the State BN government and opt for the inexperienced Opposition or we will suffer in the next 50 years,”
-BN has been in power for more than 47 yrs...and yet the people still suffers.

WAs Snowdan using a metaphor when he tried to equate BN with those prestigious universities?Say!BN is suffering the death pang caused by their own misdeeds. If you as an elected rep. and closed your two eyes to the injustice perpetrated in your backyard, what more can you expect ?Using threat only shows your weakness, arrogant and lack of self confident. We are no longer living in the medeival age,we are living in te 21st century in the midst of knowledge explosion.Nothing can be hidden for too long. All will be revealed and be manifested clearly as the noonday sun.

To Jason Adam,

I also taped Snowdan's speech that night. He muddled his speech with half Iban, half English. A lot of broken english being used. Most of his speech centred on praising himself.

That reminds me of DCM Jabu. The part on praising himself I purposely did not include in my report. May be next time.

So Jason Adam,

In your personal opinion, what do you think of Snowdan?

The ruling YBs better say if they think they are the only sincere one helping the rakyat " let give the opposition party a try if they can perform better and sincerely helping the people. I mean i got so fed up with their statement as thought Sarawakian esp. the Dayaks are so dumb and stupid where generally they said "if they are really sincere helping the rakyat, what have they done...they only know how to talk only etc.
TO you YBs LET THE OPPOSITION rule first then not only you but the rakyat as well be able to assess them. But your statement all this while are all bullshit and rubbish as though the people are stupid. Yes the ones voting for you are no doubt the most stupid people on earth!

Snowdan should be directing a drama based on fictions rather than be involved in politics. Why not? he is the chairman of DAMA so that qualifies him to be film director. What say you, Snowdan?

And now JA could remind himself of taking good care and concentrate on doing the tape recording and less indulge in beer and tuak drinking session while attending such an “important” function in the future!

"DONT ABANDON BN"
My foot,BN has shouted to the whole world,of how succesfull, caring, fair, justified, knowledgible and had amass expertise in the governing of Malaysia. If the whole propaganda they are so proud about, then why are still so many communities in Sarawak are without the basic amenities even after 47 years of the formation Malaysia? Why are the NCR and COMMUNAL lands being trespassed on,in the name of POLITIC OF DEVELOPMENT?Is the politic of development, are meant for those in the corridor of power to amass personal wealth, their immediate families and cronies? In any democracy, every citizens has the right to exercise his choice to whom they think can fulfilled their needs and wants.Threats and punishment are the made and used by uncivilised soceiety and communist,in which Sarawak is not.Grow up young man,and use your God given intellect and wisdom, otherwise you better do not involve yourself in politics.

The Ibans 's feet are now touching the bottom of the Batang Rejang. They have been bound, bungled and submerged by UMNO controlled BN for over 47 years. Thet cannot sink any deeper but to bounce back and take back the power they have given to the ungrateful Taib and his gang of thieves.

Ibans have had enough of Taib Mahmud and UMNO controlled BN.
