Taib’s Corruption – The Grandest Scandal of Them All?

KUCHING: Sarawak PKR Chief Baru Bian calls on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police to investigate the alleged corruption said to be the ‘grandest scandal of them all’ allegedly involved the Chief Minister of Sarawak Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“The scandal is furnished in a letter sent by a group of international and Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which expose Taib’s alleged wealth.

“The Malaysian authorities must respond immediately to the letter and the evidence furnished by these NGOs,” stressed Bian, who is the Ba’Kelalan Assemblyman.

He was referring to a news item by AFP which said that a group of international and Malaysian NGOs have written a letter to the Malaysian authorities demanding the immediate arrest and criminal prosecution of Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud and his family members for the alleged illegal appropriation of public funds.

The news item on the scandal was widely published in news portals in the country some of which have described it as the grandest scandal of them all.

“While Taib’s wealth is not a secret, the details provided by the NGOs are shocking. Taib and his family’s alleged interest in just 14 companies amount to RM4.6 billion.

“In total, Taib and his family are alleged to have interests in 332 Malaysian and 85 foreign companies,” he said.

Bian said: “This debunks his recent official interview where he stated that his family’s wealth is accumulated from business abroad and due to their talents.

“Unfortunately, this allegation will continue the downward trend of Malaysia’s corruption score, making a mockery of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s transformation agenda. As Transparency International has stated, Malaysia continues to slide due to its inaction on ‘grand corruption’.

“In other cases, the most recent being the alleged RM250 million National Feedlot Corporation scandal involving Minister Shahrizat Jalil and her family, the authorities do nothing.

“If they continue to remain silent in this grandest alleged corruption cases of them all that has now come to the world’s attention and drawn wide interest internationally, not only will our country’s image continue to deteriorate, but so will the faith of the rakyat,” he said.

Apart from NGOs, many reports had been lodged by individuals with MACC against Taib`s involvement in corruption. In this respect, the public are anxious to find out from MACC who is investigating the reports, whether the investigation is still in progress or there is no evidence against Taib?

On other hand, we keep reading reports from websites and blogs about the the immense wealth amassed by the family of Taib. Being the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Taib is accountable to the people of Sarawak to clarify the matter, but until today Taib has kept silence over these allegations.

If I were him and if the reports are untrue, I will sue the writers and the publishers of the reports. Silence means acceptance.

Be realistic. BN will do nothing. He is a fixed deposit. Lost taib mean lost putrajaya.

Be realistic. BN won't lost fixed deposit. MACC was form by the PM advice. Believe me, nothing will change. He will always "innocent". The coward sarawakians permitted corruption by continuing to vote BN.

In Malaysia " Corruption " is an acceptable norm! To quote from the mouth of Bapa 1Malaysia "If you tolong gua, I tolong you". What can we expect from his subordinates? Leadership by example? Stealing from public funds is considered as part of their fringe benefits and entitlements as BN representatives. In BN's perpective, there is nothing immoral about corruption. To them its part and parcel of our ketuanan integrasi culture. MACC is only window dressing to fool the peasants!

SILENCE IS ADMISSION OF GUILT.

Also this old fellow is so arrogant that he can't be bothered to defend his reputation.

However he spent our money and bought media spin doctors to polish his image.

Unfortunately, thanks to the free press in the INTERNET his efforts have all but collapsed!

It could be said that the international pressure is weighing down on him as a number of western governments are investigating his money laundering in their countries.

Someone whispered that the MACC is actually beginning to look into his financial affairs. If true this is very welcome.

MACC should also extend its investigation to Mahathir and Najib who are connected to Taib. They also stole billions between the 2 of them and much of it is from Sabah and Sarawak oil and gas money.

Agree ,agree. Not only the NGOs both local and foreign have agreed for an investigation in Taib's wealth. Local folks ,Ibans, chinese malays you name it,know the corruption of Taib and his family. Everybody knows about the ill acquired wealth by Taib except the BN/UMNo and related arms like the police, macc and the BN comarades in arm.
well what to do, ppl vote them in gov't and should regret by now. So this coming GE13, vote for PR ,anything but UMNO/BN.

I do not believe that YAB Pehin Seri is a corrupt person. We have, in the country effective and trusted agencies, among others the MACC to investigate (any cases) should there be one. So far nothing has pointed to YAB Pehin Seri's corrupt act.

YB Tan Sri James Jemut Masing did clarify on the matter not so long ago and please believe what YB Tan Sri (James) Minister had said.

Our YB DCM Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi should know better regarding any (corrupt) allegation if any.

The very fact that all Dayak Senior leaders are silent on the matter means YAB Pehin Seri Taib is clean and never in his tenure of office abused his position especially against the interest and matters related to Dayak (NCR) land, rights and heritage.

Please leave YAB Pehin Seri and his dedicated team to focus on their visions to develop and raise the living standard of us dayaks.

Thank you

'The Grandest of Them All',yes,it is true. The issue has become public consumption for long enough. Some of these thing even happened right under our nose.See how land worthed millions and millions at Batu Lintang and Jalan airport being given away to his family members at such a low premium? But as much as we are angry,we just could not rely on Najib administration to punish Taib.Najib needs him more than he needs you and me.The only way to punish Taib is to kick him and his cohorts out come the next election. But then again, how many of us,in particular the people in Taib's area dare to do it.Before they could say anything,Taib would stuff some money into their throat and they will be quite again. Yes,it is a very sad situation for us,but corruption and embezzelement of rakyat's money has been the hallmark of the present government and we have allowed it to happen.

FairviewBetong is the same as Jabu. Both lick Taik Mahmoot's arse. Twice Taik Mahmoot said that there was no majority race in Sarawak and Jabu agreed.

Horrific plunder and theft, skinning & fleecing the whole State. One person holding 3 prime portfolios: Chief Minsiter, Finance Minister & Planning and Resources Minister, controlling everything economic in Sarawak. 31 years! George Soros: “Look at the Sarawak Chief Minister selling billions worth of timber concessions under the table; selling every piece of state land to businessmen without tender; using his own companies to obtain lucrative government contracts; … 'you pay I approve'. He has 8 billion US stashed overseas….. In China people have been shot for embezzling one thousand dollars. With 8 billion you have stolen, therefore you would be shot 80,000 times….The Prime Minister built highways without tender, your cronies get the deal and the price double.” Millions of people deprived of a decent livelihood. Many lack schools, electricity & drinking water. We now call the most horrible curse on all these criminals.

Foreign psychics are predicting the fall of BN/UMNO/PBB, & ascendance of PR/PKR/DAP/PAS. Corruption is a crime. We urge all cronies, TanSris, Datuks, YBs to heed your conscience and dignity and withdraw support for the criminals now. Hopefully you’ll be granted amnesty from prosecution. Twitter quote: ‘Mubarak cried and resisted leaving the helicopter that took him to prison. Why do dictators love to act like big babies’ Let this, Gaddaffi & Saddam etc be a warning to others. Jumping ships and a domino effect has started! Pundits expect this to set in motion a domino effect as Sabah leaders fled the decaying BN, helping to pave the way for the country's first regime change in 55 years… God is wonderful and BN is crumbling like Idi Amin, Suharto, Marcos, Ben Ali, Mubarak, Gaddafi & Assad in Syria.
