The Minister of Home Affairs has rejected the appeal of Malaysian Dayak Congress (MDC) to register it as a political party on grounds of security and public order.
In a letter dated 9 April 2008, signed by an official of the Ministry said that the Minister after a careful investigation and consideration has to reject the appeal to register Malaysian Dayak Congress.
“The appeal is rejected based on Section 7(3)(a) of the Societies Act 1966 on grounds that its registration can cause a threat to security and public order,” the official said in the letter.
However, if the applicants were still interested to pursue the MDC registration then they should submit a fresh application to the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
In revealing this today, Joseph Tawie, Protem Information Chief of Malaysian Dayak Congress said that the application to register MDC was submitted on 6 May 2004. The Registrar of Societies rejected it on security grounds under Section 7(3)(a) on 19 July 2006.
The protem committee on 12 August 2006 appealed against the decision of the Registrar to the Minister of Home Affairs.
“Now the Minister has rejected our appeal under the same Section,” said Tawie, who expressed deep regret over the decision of the minister.
Section 7 (3) says: “The Registrar shall refuse to register a local society where - (a) it appears to him that such local society is unlawful under the provisions of this Act or any other written law or is likely to be used for unlawful purposes or any purpose prejudicial to or incompatible with peace, welfare, security, public order, good order or morality in Malaysia;”
Tawie said the protem committee members will meet in the next few days whether to submit a fresh application or not.
But in the meantime two options are open to tens of thousands ex-PBDS members who have remained partyless since the deregistration of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) on 21 October 2004. (Before its deregistration PBDS had nearly 200,000 members.)
One is for them to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the other is to join any of the existing parties in the State.
Personally, I will call on the ex-PBDS members to find a leader and in a group let us all join PKR, hoping that one day PKR together with DAP and PAS will form not only the State government of Sarawak, but also the Federal government.

Breaking News...
Anwar Ibrahim,Lim Kit Siang and top PR officials are been prevented from entering Kuching to attend PKR dinner tonight. They are stopped at Kuching Airport when the plan carrying them touched down a few minutes ago.Large crowd are awaiting their leader's arrival and there is some tension at the Kuching Airport now as I write ,after the immigration prevented them from entering.Right now, they are involve in some serious negotiation and PKR kuching Chief,Dominic Ng is seen at the airport with Nyemah assemblyman,Gabriel Adit.
The state gov't is trembling with cold sweat ,on hearing the news that Anwar and DAP strongman Lim Kit Siang is coming to lead a massive crowd of local dayaks who is waiting to join PKR. Will let you all know the latest as it comes!
All dayaks must join PKR now becos by the next election they can challenge this gov't who will definately be defeated.
We all know who is behind all this.Rules are bended and goal post shifted to suit their agenda. This is Srarawak Mugabe in the making. We must move fast.
The Dayak need an equal power and economic sharing. for both PR or BN, this is not a joke or a lie to the dayak. What is so good about PKR if we are still pronoun as second-class bumiputera by both BN and PR. Better form a Dayak dased party. We are the majority and there is no way for ROS not to register a homogeneous party as UMNO, MCA and MIC did. Right? Why talk a lot about PKR? at the end we are still play a self-interest politic as what the dayak leaders doing now. MDC should be registered and not to be rejected. I see this as a threat to Barisan Nasional or better to say to Taib and Pak Lah.
Good ROS that uses a ground of security to reject MDC application. Why not de-register PBB for its corrupt governance over SWK invoving corrupt land deals, development, road projects and so on and so on.....???
The result from MDC appeal had been expected and lets us open our eyes that its futile to try again.I agree that the best solution for those EX-PBDS supporters and symptizers are to join PAKATAN and enbloc to PKR or PAS or DAP.We need to educate our rural folks that we need change and change we must, no two way about it.
Do not look back...move forward. Don't waste more time to appeal to register MDC. Just recoupe and let all of us enblock join PKR. That is only the best alternative. Let one for all show our unity by joining PKR. Only history will tell us whether our decision is wrong or right. But for now we must make this decision...
They are concerned that the Dayaks are now determined to correct past errors and, are ready to have a united voice to defend their rights and the rights of all Malaysian brethren. Dayak bloggers such as yourself are so articulate in highlighting unfairness and injustice. That seems to scare the powers that be.
Don’t lose hope, A’ya! Keep on trying… Yes, you and others can (do it) – for a better future!
Godspeed…
The last venue for you is to go to court for review and present your case well.Let try!!
In reality joining PKR or any opposition party united and en masse is the best option. For now, lets think about MDC after BN bullies are booted out of Sarawak!
In that case, the Home Affairs Minister should cancel the registration of the Malaysian Indian Congress. Why can the Indians have their party registered and not the Dayaks?
haha....what a joke....baldy know nothing....
to NEIL....dayaks are not necessary join pakatan to kick BN's ass.....
i dun really trust anwar....anwar was just another typical racist before....remember what he had been doing during his DPM era? ingat2lah sendiri...
what dayaks really need to do now is, by improving themselves in term in education. that's the main point here
To me ...it very simple. Those who want to fight bn with their own way...just do it. BUT..BUT TTTT are you fell strong enough to fight the "robert mugabe" ???
...and are you may stop in half way if "robert mugabe" put u into the"dark room" ???
Are u really brave...like what DSAI has proven.
Stop thinking twice...Just take the plunge and join PKR. It is a decision that we may get wrong..but what alternative have we? We dayaks have made many-many wrong decision before, that why though majority we lost power and can't recoupe till now.Why can't we just make this one bold decision. It doesn't matter if later on we found it to be one wrong decision....however it may also be the best decision.
As an Orang Malaya, Anwar will always be Orang Malaya. Old habits die hard. His past prove that he amy not be a good leader for Dayaks. We need him because of our common enemy in the person of Taib Mahmud and BN. The best alternative is still all Dayaks join STAR, and later STAR join Pakatan Rakyat. In this way, our Dayak leader in STAR will talk to Anwar on equal term. Unlike now, Adit still call Anwar Sir, before talking. Ofcoz Anwar is a better devil than Taib, Najib and Mahathir.
