Larry Sng to be Ibans’ Hogansiau?

Sarawak Workers’ Party (SWP) aims to replace Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) as the Dayak-based party by contesting against the six seats now held by PRS.

The six seats are Julau, Selangau, Kanowit, Hulu Rajang, Lubok Antu and Sri Aman

Its newly elected President Larry Sng blamed PRS for ‘bad’ politics in areas controlled by the party.  SWP tried to get rid of such ‘bad’ politics practised by PRS.

Larry Sng’s Deputy George Lagong who is his uncle blamed Dayak leaders who claimed to be championing for their people but instead were not living up to their promises.

The Dayak community had been left behind and had lost directions.

“They have been there for many years and did not perform up to expectations. They should give way to young blood to lead. I want voters to help change the situation by voting for SWP candidates,” Lagong said.

Lagong’s criticisms also hit at Dayak senior Ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Alfred jab Anak Numpang.

Only two months old, SWP claims to have a total membership of 10,000.

Who are these people? From what I gather the membership is made of Sng’s workers and those who are financially dependent on him.

Therefore Sarawak Workers’ Party should be changed to SNG’S WORKERS PARTY.

Secondly, do we agree that Larry Sng, a Chinese to be our Hogansiau in place of Jabu?

Sadly, some do including some prominent lawyers, teachers, and etc.

Meanwhile, the following is what See Chee How’s comment:

Sarawak Workers’ Party’s stand to ‘fight BN, but we are pro-BN’ is simply outrageous and one that is an insult to the political intelligence of the voters in the six constituencies it proposed to contest in the coming election, said Sarawak PKR Vice-Chairman See Chee How.

The six constituencies are Julau, Selangau, Kanowit, Hulu Rajang, Lubok Antu and Sri Aman.

“That political stand is simply outrageous. It is an insult to the political intelligence of the voters in those constituencies,” he said.

See, who is the Batu Lintang Assemblyman, said that it is the constitutional rights of Larry Sng and his SWP leaders and members to contest in the coming parliamentary election, but the voters in the Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Julau, Kanowit, Selangau and Hulu Rajang should be cautioned that SWP is taking them for a ride.

The "fight BN but we are pro-BN’ political stand taken by SWP is simply outrageous," he warned, adding: “The coming general election should be taken very seriously as we have reached the watershed of Malaysian electoral history that all Malaysians eligible voters are to choose between the two political party alliance of BN and Pakatan Rakyat, to form the next government.

“It is a constitutional right to vote which comes with a moral and sacred duty and responsibility, to choose with all wisdom, the right members of parliament to govern the country for the next five years.

“It is morally wrong and politically incorrect to treat election as an avenue to settle personal feuds.

“I can understand the predicament of SWP,” said See, pointing out that the conception and inception of SWP has nothing to do with a political ideology, neither is it founded upon the struggle or aspiration of the people.

He said: “The SWP leaders are all ex-BN and have been with BN for a long time. They landed themselves in the awkward situation of political wilderness after losing the PRS internal squabbles.

“Their core leaders and supporters are those from PRS who depended upon and appealing to others with the BN’s politics of patronage.

“To pledge support for BN on the one hand while contest against PRS on the other hand is to maintain their support from the grassroots, but it is a political suicide for SWP leaders if the BN component parties give their full backing to PRS.

“It is quite inconceivable that any BN leaders supporting SWP will openly voice their backing to the new party. The SWP leaders can only hope that certain BN heavy weights may step forward to help resolve their principally personal feuds, for fear that Pakatan Rakyat may benefit from the BN internal squabbles by winning the seats.

“While the 'sandiwara' of the warring SWP and PRS continues, the people in the six constituencies do not benefit beyond the lavishing feasts organized by them.

“Ultimately, in all these six constituencies, the electoral contest is between BN and Pakatan Rakyat.

“The feud and squabbling within the parties under the UMNO-dominated BN has certainly worsened in the state.

“The BN and the BN Fan Club, the Chinese A Team and B Team, and the inter-party rivalry in certain constituencies have certainly casted a long shadow of doubt upon the capability of the Prime Minister  Najib Tun Razak and BN to govern this country beyond the next general election,” said the PKR leader.

Meanwhile, the  move by SWP to be a BN-friendly party has been rejected  by the State BN  when its Secretary General Stephen Rundi described  the decision to contest against PRS as ‘not the right move.’

It was weird, he said, for SWP to declare itself as a BN-friendly party, but at the same time decided to contest in the six constituencies held by PRS, one of the BN component parties.

“How can you call us friends when you are fighting with one of us?” he said.

Meanwhile, the newly elected SWP President Larry Sng has accused PRS of playing ‘bad’ politics in the six constituencies that the party represented and pledged to ‘clean’ those constituencies.

He asked the voters to send SWP candidates to Parliament so that they could represent the people better than PRS.

“PRS style of politics has not benefited the people and we are here to change it,” he was quoted as saying.

He said that government policies have been outlined for the benefit of the people and due to bad politics, planned projects had not been implemented.

If this is the case, it is timely that our current Iban Hogansiau YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred be elevated to Chief Hogansiau.

Larry is fit to be his deputy and
Tan Sri James Masing and Tan Sri Mawan may remain as Assistant Hogansiau.

Perfect suggestion JT.

Selamat nyambut ari Gawai Dayak.

The word "Hogansiau" does not in my Oxford and Macmillan Dictionary, neither it is an Iban word. Its meaning could be bad or good.

Regarding Larry Sgn whether James Masing stands by his own words "Dato Sgn is very generous. I have seen people coming to him and asking for help and he will help without hesitation."

To PKR leaders, thank you very much for helping Dayak community by providing fee-free lawyers to take back NCR land from the "robbers".

this is not a Dayak party!!! its a chinese party, designed to replace SUPP and get back the chinese vote. anything called a workers party is instantly a chinese backed party.

Dayaks stay away from it, they dont give two hoots about our people, just like the rest of BN. keep stealing our land. get these idiots booted out once and for all.

Rather than having Jabu as our Iban Hogansiau it is better still to have Taib Mahmud to be the iban chief hogansiau b'cos Jabu has no power.

Lets not play the race game here. The Sngs have never failed the ibans etc. when they were Ybs. They deserves some credit unlike our own iban Ybs. who choses to be self opinionated towkays and takes revenge on those who disagrees with them. Lest we forget, Larry Sng has done more in helping poor iban parents by the formation of an education fund for dayak students in Pelagus. Can anyone name one such foundation from any of our dayak Ybs.to match his generosity...our iban towkays don't walk the talk are thus a joke! Larry's hold on Pelagus is as solid as rock because he cares for his constituents even right now even though not their Yb. I don't recollect any NCR issues in Pelagus. Correct me if I am wrong.

I couldn't agree more with Apai Semalau.Do not play the race card here but play on merits. Our Dayak or the Iban YBs always want the Dayaks or the Ibans to recognise them as the leaders. But do they deserve to be called as one? Just take one factual scenario-SARAWAK IS THE RICHEST STATE IN MALAYSIA BUT THE IBANS ARE THE POOREST RACE IN MALAYSIA.Why? Our so-called Dayak leaders are 'fighting endlessly' to become party presidents,to become senior ministers and whatnot-but do they fight endlessly for the Dayaks? My foot. So don't talk about race after all our Dayaks YBs are mere dogs to Taib and Najib. In brief,if Larry wants to fight for the Dayaks or Ibans, then it is most welcomed. He spent millions on scholarship for deserving students, the Ibans included.Do we know of any Iban leaders helping the Iban students the way Larry does? As of now,i only knew of 2 things about our so-called Iban leaders;first,a personal competition among themselves to have a bigger party and second, they are betrayal to their own people, even the handicapped was not spared .

nothing is wrong morally in politic. Politic is a game of swindlers aiming to overpower one another as a present situation tells us what politic is all about.
I do not walk along racial line. whoever take care of our welfare deserve my credit. What is the use of having own race when he cant help us.
Common dayaks, follow whoever can take care of us, dump the dummers into the dustbin.

Well,if Larry can help the Ibans, why not .If he could not be called Hogansiau(sabah Kadazan-dusun term)or Iban paramount chief, then remember him as the Iban fighter in the future. After all the Ibans do not have any real leaders now who really have the heart and political will to fight for the Ibans.Who knows,Larry might have the Dayak blood in him as his mother is from Taiwan and Taiwan, according to one of the historical theories was the origin of the Ibans;so in Taiwan they have Tai-ya-ren;their traditional costumes resemble much of the Ibans.Just ask your chinese friends about this.So the Dayak god in Taiwan whispered to him to take care of the Ibans here since Jabu,Masing,Mawan or Manyin has failed.Lest we forget about history,we know that Sarawak we have today was not a result of the struggles of any of the Malays,Melanaus, chinese or the Dayaks hogansious but the White raja hogansiou. So, there is nothing wrong for a person of different race to love another race isn't it?

Just to recap the order of things in the natural world!

1. It's a tiger that prowls on the sheep and never the other way round.

2. The weak will always be the victim and can never be a victor,

3. The fool can never overcome the wise, the weak can never win any fight with the strong even though the ground is level, and the poor can easily be manipulated by the rich and the powerful!

Sooo...you Iban... I don't even see the light yet at the end of the tunnel for your present predicaments!

Whatever it is, put a blame on yourself, and not others please..!!!

Hopefully the Iban Community can learn a painful lesson from the natural world, or else you will be doomed to vanity in your own backyard!
