Another Malay party?

KUCHING - A group of people led by Affendi Jeman who have been trying to promote the formation of Sarawak UMNO have now submitted an application to form a political party to be known as Anggota Rakyat Bumiputra Sarawak (ARABS), it is reliably learnt.

One of the protem committee members, who refused to be named, said that ARABS was submitted in May this year.

“The party is to be known as Anggota Rakyat Bumiputra Sarawak or ARABS in short. We hope that the party can be registered as soon as possible in view of the coming election and urge the authorities to look into its registration,” he said.

This group has been trying to bring UNMO into Sarawak for years, and UMNO leaders in Kuala Lumpur knew about their plan. But their efforts have been strongly opposed by Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) leaders on ground that PBB being the backbone of the state government is strong and doing well in administering the State.

The idea of UMNO extending its wings to Sarawak has been off and on since the then Chief Minister Abdul Rahman Yakub made the suggestion in the 1970s. In 1980s the former Defence Minister Abang Abu Bakar tried to revive the idea; his efforts too failed.

Then came this group led by Jeman. But now it appears that the group has abandoned the idea. Instead they are trying to form ARABS which will be a Malay-based party.

Meanwhile, Mustaffa Kamil Ayub, chief of Sarawak PKR said that he had heard about Gabriel Adit, a PKR leader and State Assemblyman for Ngemah forming a new party.

“We cannot stop him leaving Keadilan and forming a party of his own. If it is true, then what can we do?

“So far I have not received any letter of resignation from Adit,”
he said, adding that Adit’s move would not affect PKR in the state.

PKR, he said, is still intact and it is growing from strength to strength as more and more Sarawakians are joining the party. Early this month, he said some 2,400 applications have been received from people in and around Debak in the Betong Division to join PKR.

Mustaffa also said that he had discussed with Anwar Ibrahim, de facto leader of Keadilan, on the possibility of him relinquishing his post as chief PKR in Sarawak.

“It is up to Anwar and PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to appoint someone who they think can lead the party in Sarawak. I know that they have found somebody. It is a matter of time when they will announce the name of the person,” he said.

Mustaffa who was appointed last May to head the party in the State said that he had completed his task of team-building and had organised various programmes to strengthen the party.

“It is high time that a Sarawakian be appointed, someone who is ready to serve the party,” he added.

In the meantime, Adit is reported to be leaving for Kuala Lumpur today (Sun, 11 Oct) to see some of those who are involved in the formation of the new party.

He is expected to be back on Thursday, 15 October to announce the name of the party, its objects and aims and the names of the protem office-bearers. – The Broken Shield

Another malay party and i think if there is no interference more will be register. As najib supported the new indian party and openly saying that he will talk to all who support him, all hell broke loose.

Now everyone is join in the fray but who can come out to be reliable in the next GE remain to be seen.

we can't blame Adit to forming a new party becos all this while he have been sidelined. Since joining PKR 10 months ago, he have no role to play and all the expenses incurred while as a party man are folk out from his own pocket.

PKR in sarawak ,been headed by ill-informed guys only make matter worse. The co-ordination among party guys are at its worst. No one can make decision and all party matters are reported to Anwar and to get a simple answer take weeks.

Now with Adit leaving PKR, there are bound to be some who will be following his footsteps. We will know in due course.Adit leaving PKR is expected. There are also some forces who are too jealous to see Adit regaining political ground.

If Anwar still do not urgently appoint a local well liked guy, then PKR is gone for good. Most here don't mind if PKR is not around as we still have DAP.Next GE will see DAP gaining more seats and I won't be surprise to see SUPP wipe out.

Good luck to Adit and I hope his new party will lead the dayaks out of the wilderness.

Leo Moggie would be the best choice to helm this new party as he is the dayak paramount chief.

If ARABS is supporting UMNO, in principle it is supporting BN. Therefore, it is another BN`s strategy to weaken or sabotage Pakatan Rakyat which has been getting an overwhelming support from the people of Sarawak.

As Najib said, " In a parlimentary democracy, anyone can form political parties and it is up to the people to decide whom to support." Yes, with the registration of the two new Indian-based parties, MIUP and Makkal Sathi, our parliamentary democracy seems as it is only functioning in West Malaysia, but not in Sarawak when ROS rejected the registration of Malaysian Dayak Congress (MDC), a dayak-based party.

If the registration of PRM and ARABS are approved by the government, it is the public perception that the dayaks are not allowed to form dayak-based political parties. May be Sarawak BN`s leaders are happy to see partyless dayaks join any political party in Pakatan Rakyat. If that is the case, I call all partyless dayaks to join PKR so that we can shut the big mouth of BN`s leaders as we did in the seven constituencies in the by-elections recently.

Just got word that Afendi Jeman used to be a clerk in Bank Utama. Apparently, he's not well regarded but he will ghost lead the whole thing. The initials are very catchy! "ARABS" ! ha!

Looks like a smokesreen as with makkal sakti party.

This might be the trend now!

Anwar and PKR are making too many mistakes in East Malaysia. It is time they stopped messing up Sarawak and Sabah before the East Malaysians kicked out PKR for good. I think this boycott of Jeffrey’s Hari Raya bash is the last straw. They do this and even I will persuade Jeffrey to leave PKR and go set up his own party. And if they twist Zaid’s arm and force him to boycott Jeffrey’s event then maybe Zaid should also reconsider his position in PKR.

I have just about had it with these childish and amateurish antics of the PKR people who are messing up everything. Don’t try to push Sarawak and Sabah around. They will not take this kind of treatment. And the more you act like colonialists the more they are going to resist you. And without Sarawak and Sabah and the 56 parliament seats they control you can forget about forming the next federal government.

I have read with dismay the disarray of PKR in Sabah and Sarawak over their leadership. I humbly suggest that PKR Sabah and PKR Sarawak be allowed to vote for their own respective leaders. Hopefully, this will end all the bickering about being ruled from KL, and the party can then concentrate on winning more support in Sarawak and Sabah.

Interesting. From day one I suspect this might happened. All dayak politicians is the same. First they feed themselves fat. Second, they ignored the plead of their own community but at the same time asked the community to support them. And stupid community also support them. Third when things not going their way .... form a new party or jump to another ship and hack the former party. Adit is not exception. Whats new??

Let it be.

Whether ROS is going to register it.

If registered, how long it can last.

Previously, some political parties vanished of natural death.
