Is Jabu anti West Malaysians?

Is Deputy Chief Minister and deputy president of Parti Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Alfred Jabu anak Numpang anti-West Malaysians?

This is the question that members of the public especially members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) asking themselves after reading Jabu’s statement appearing in The Borneo Post today (12 March 2009).

Jabu had warned “outsiders” not to mess around with the Ibans. Foremost, he said, these “outsiders must never show disrespect for the community’s tradition and culture and they must adhere to the Iban rituals whenever they entered longhouses otherwise bad luck would befall them.

Jabu did not name who the “outsiders” were. If the word applies to West Malaysians, then no one from West Malaysia not even Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister can come to Lubok Antu. Even if they come, do we expect them to go to certain rituals (genselan) as suggested by Jabu?

If the “outsiders” means those outside Lubok Antu, then Jabu himself, Abdul Taib Mahmud, James Masing and William Mawan also cannot come to Lubok Antu. Let the Lubok Antu people conduct the by-election by themselves.

It is obvious that Jabu has nothing to say any more as he keeps on repeating what he said several times before. Just imagine the other day Jabu was addressing students and talked politics to them and repeated what he has been saying about “outsiders”.

As the students do not understand politics, Jabu’s intention is/was to sow seeds of hatred against “outsiders” who are Malaysians from the peninsula.

By using the words “don’t mess around with Ibans” does not Jabu appear to behave more like a 'gangster' than a minister or a Dayak leader? – The Broken Shield

So Jabu The Irrelevant is Anti-Najis, after-all.
Well our votes will still for Pakatan Rakyat.

Alfred Jabu's arrogance comes from an inferiority complex really. Those who have these complexes will camouflage their weaknesses by aggression. They think the only way they can put forward their ideas is by treating others as adversaries. Have you noticed how many of our leaders prefer surrounding themselves with not so credible followers? Look at people who are surrounding Jabu, they are all pathetic losers, politician with lack of credibility.

looks like a moron who thinks he can used a chapter from unmo's book of how to for idiot to divide and rule ..

does that not remind you of the threats unmo used so effectively to divide and rule the country for the past 50 years with the call for "others" not the interfere with the malays?

hope people can stop this idiot on his track before his venom spread far and wide - although i doubt it.

LOL....How can Jabu say don't mess with the Ibans? He does not represent the Ibans. He can only represent his family at best.

Hey Jabu....get it thru your thick skull....NO ONE RESPECTS YOU ANYMORE! WE ARE ASHAMED THAT YOU STILL CALL YOURSELF AN IBAN, YOU SPINELESS BALL-CARRYING, ASS-KISSING JELLYFISH/SOTONG.

And now since you have nothing to say, you decide that you are the expert in the supernatural?

But you know what...what you said in the papers is the best ingredient for change. The more you say will be like pouring kerosene on the fire. It boggles the mind that you can stay where you are for so long and got away with so much of crap. I guess Taib was just promoting inefficiency and stupidity. Iban leader my foot!! We all know who the real Iban leader is and you are not fit to even stand near him.

hi there everyone.
I think Jabu has no supporting basis to be the champion of the Iban.
Look at yourself Jabu, none of your siblings will bear Iban blood. Your son Rentap is going to produce CHIBAN that is Iban mixed Chinese. Your daughter is going to produce an offspring of a RIBAI origin. How are you going to say that you are the champion of the Iban?
You talk about taboos, do you really believe in taboos? I dont think so as records showed, am i correct?
As a senior minister, not just an ordinary minister, your argument should be of a higher rating that what you used to say. Iam sorry, i have to say this so that you should put more astuate matters in your concerns.
I love you Jabu but be more smart.

Survey says UMNO corrupt !

Umno has received a slap in the face just ahead of its key annual meeting, with many voters polled in a survey seeing the country's biggest political party as corrupt and out of touch with the ground.

Perhaps it time for local bloggers to conduct similar survey on PBB. I am inclined to think PBB is more corrupt than UMNO.

"don't mess with Ibans" what a word!!!!.

So who messed the Ibans, if not him. He himself messed the Ibans. The land is a cultural heritage of the dayaks and he disrespect that. What respect has he shown????? We are in the global village and thinking like what he thinks is a "KATAK BAWAH TEMPURUNGn POLICY". A clear indication that he don't what the Dayaks to progress. Because in opening up the Lubok Antu area to outsiders his dark side will be exposed.

Glad to inform that the war of words or rather the minor misunderstanding between blogger friend Sarawak Headhunter and YB Dominique is now history. Its has been amicably resolved, thanks to the mediator role of Dayakbaru and with USA fully satisfied that SH is certainly not under BN payroll.Warring parties agreed to march on in ensuring victory for PKR candidate in Batang

The Ibans are already in a mess, so Jabu's "don't mess around with the Ibans" doesn't make sense one bit!

He is barking up the wrong tree and talking through his nose.
However, we want to thank him for being "anti malayans".

The war cry is "Sarawak for Sarawakians".

Come on Jabu, be a true iban warrior and show us some leadership guts.

Jabu will be the next CM of Sarawak, so he does not like outsiders to cuma "ngachau ngachau daun" you know?

Please forgive him, sometimes he talks not with brain and through his mouth, he speak through his nose.

Literally what Jabu mean, 'Don't messed with the Iban' is actually 'DON'T MESSED WITH ME (Jabu).' These message is WARNING to those west malaysian regardless of PKR, DAP, PAS, MIC, MCA & UMNO. Very simple and straight forward message even those in kindy could easily understand his motive.
Go Jabu go...!
Go Jabu go...!
Hidup Jabu...!

We are living in our multiracial country and encourage a sense of friendship and racial harmony amongst the people of Malaysia so that all communities live in the true spirit of tolerance, co-operation and understanding for the benefit of the people and country. To promote inter-racial harmony and unity, we encourage all races of different religions to mix around, by visiting one another`s `kampongs`, longhouses and `mukims`. However, Jabu on the other hand has tried to stop the other races which he claimed as `outsiders` not to come to Iban longhouses because these peoples he said would bring bad luck.It is ridiculous. Is Jabu in this context also sending a message to leaders in UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, the malays in PBB and the chinese in SUPP not to come to Iban longhouses?

Instead of cultivating mutual understanding and genuine respect for each other, Jabu seems aggravates racial outbursts and deteriorates racial harmony. When someone tries to correct him, Jabu is accusing him/her of twisting the facts.

What can I say except the kind of comments in Dayak blogs by BN supporters is just nonsense and shows that the level of education among the Dayaks is really very low. It also simply shows the Dayak slave mentality at work again.

The money in the Pakatan ruled states belongs to the people of those states. You expect the people there to agree to send their money over to Batang Ai just because the Sarawak Government refuses to spend public monies on Batang Ai?

BN has been representing Batang Ai for the last 50 years. If it cannot do justice to the people of Batang Ai by now, it should not continue to claim that it is the best party to represent the seat in the state assembly or Parliament.

The problem with the Dayaks is that the BN has brainwashed them into thinking in the last 50 years that the government is their father and mother and to go against them is an act of betrayal and an anti-national act, akin to treachery, treason and sedition. The opposition are painted as trouble-creators, desperadoes who should be locked up under the ISA (Internal Security Act) for trying to represent the people and "thereby disturbing the peace and harmony of the state" etc etc

Can you imagine such nonsense?

I expect the Dayak slave mentality to manifest itself on election day on April 7 when they start taking bribe money from the BN and swear before God and the Devil to vote for them while shamelessly kissing the hands and even the asses of the BN politicians. Where is this money from? Collected from some big Chinaman who will be seeking to "reimburse" themselves for their "investment" through more AliBaba projects from the government. That's how the people's money is flushed down the drain. A RM 100 million project becomes RM 200 million or RM 300 million by the time it is finished because the Ali wants his cut for handing over the government project to Baba while Baba wants to be "reimbursed" for his "investment" in vote-buying in Batang Ai.

The BN are afraid that if the people vote the opposition in any seat, the new representatives will ask disturbing questions in the state assembly and Parliament.

The BN are also afraid that should the people vote the opposition into power, the BN members and leaders would be soon counting the bars in jail for their misdeeds over the last 50 years.

‘Voodoo’ scare in Batang Ai
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/3/14/nation/3476358&sec=nation

"Jabu, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu deputy president and also State Minister for Rural Development and Infrastruc-ture Development and Communi-cations, warned opposition campaigners and native Ibans of “supernatural repercussions” that awaited those who allowed “outsiders” to enter longhouses and villages.

Jabu said that a resident of the longhouse died of mysterious circumstances two days ago after the longhouse folk allowed opposition members to enter their premises to launch a party branch.

I kind of find it's embarassing that he linking such thing for a veteran leader like him. It shows desperation. "

Didn't DS Najib him visited longhouse back then to visit the father of the slain Trooper Matthews anak Medan, why he didn't make a big fuss?

S'wak bloggers, your first big battle begins in Batang Ai
Sim Kwang Yang | Mar 14, 09 10:59am

As the political sky over the fair land of Sarawak begins to heat up in anticipation of the Batang Ai by-election, the attention is suddenly focused on a new phenomenon - the political bloggers in the state.

Alfred Jabu, deputy chief minister and PBB deputy president, has in recent months been quite vocal in his criticism of the bloggers.

A few days ago, he warned that "outsiders" must be careful in observing Iban adat when lobbying in the Batang Ai area.

Dr James Masing, the PRS president and a state minister, also warned bloggers not to stir up negative feelings that could divide Dayak unity - or something to that effect.

The way they talk about "outsiders", one gets the impression that they mean the PKR leaders and bloggers from West Malaysia.

In cyber space, the blogs are already buzzing with all kinds of speculation on when Raja Petra Kamarudin and his fierce army of Barisan Rakyat bloggers will descend upon Batang Ai.

Some expressed the view that they may be banned from entering Sarawak.

The BN ministers' tirade against the bloggers is interesting. Since the bloggers seldom answer back in the main stream media, Jabu and Masing appear to be engaged in an exercise of shadow boxing against flickering ghosts.

Those Sarawakians who are alien to the world of the Internet will be scratching their heads in puzzlement.

Who are these bloggers and what do they do to deserve such scathing attack from important Dayak leaders. Are they that powerful?

More freedom of speech

I too discovered to my great delight the presence of these Sarawak bloggers only in resent months.

Obviously, they are much younger than me, and therefore Internet savvy to a fault.

Many are pro-opposition, but there are some who are obviously pro-BN. As they say, this is a free country.

As bloggers, they do enjoy far more freedom of speech than the mainstream media.

But many also take responsibility by mediating (meaning "editing and censoring") the postings on their blog sites.

There is a great deal of garbage floating around in cyber space.

The latest news of people being charged in court for insulting the Sultan of Perak is a warning sign.

I too commented on the sultan's decision, like thousands of others.

As they say, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. But free speech does mean responsible speech, defensible in court.

Those who are familiar with Sarawak blogs will have known by now that Masing and Jabu are two of the most vilified names in Sarawak's cyber universe.

I will not sleep easy if I know that I am so much cursed on the Internet.

But of all the most cursed names, none draws such blind rage as Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.

I just pluck out at random what a reader to Joseph Tawie's blog The Broken Shield said about Jabu in a recent posting:

"But then again, every thing that Jabu touches turns to xxxx. I see from today's Borneo Post he is now resorting to associating everyone anti-BN that they will cause death and destruction when they visit longhouses.

Can you believe this idiot? What about those YBs and other pro-BN people who have moved on to the next life? Are they there because they support BN?"

"Someone should tell this anak Numpang that politcs and religion should not mix.

He is too high on his pedestal that someone should knock him down a peg or two...or throw a shoe or two at him."

I would not write such virulent words about anybody, but that is the Internet for you.

Unprecedented in Sarawak!

The emergence of these Sarawak political bloggers is a new phenomenon that the BN leading lights are grappling with.

In a state where the newspapers and radio stations are overwhelmingly controlled by the government, dissenting voices can hardly be heard in the mainstream media.

Blogging allows commentaries on current events to surface on the Internet, from the bloggers themselves, and from their readers. This is unprecedented in Sarawak!

For the first time, public statements of important political leaders published on the newspapers are no longer accepted as absolute gosple truths.

They are dissected by the bloggers, with readers contributing insight and exclusive little known background information.

The monopoly of the BN leaders to narrate the Sarawak story has been broken forever.

I read them every day. Living in KL as I do, I can rely on them to catch a glimpse of the undercurrents and nuances that pulsate beneath the stultifying political surface of Sarawak.

The expose there can really open your eyes. I am grateful to them.

In the context of the Batang Ai by-election, the presence of the Dayak bloggers is particularly damaging to the BN propaganda machine.

This bunch of New Dayaks are pretty independent minded, and they offer a diversity of views on what a Dayak agenda must be like.

Diversity and a clash of ideas are essential to the intellectual progress of any ethnic community.

Of course, like all bloggers elsewhere, Sarawak bloggers are by the nature of their lonely work, individualistic people.

Sometimes, they clash with one another. This is quite natural, and somehow, they have been able to kiss and make up in the unique Sarawak tradition after a while.

Sarawak Head-hunter - one of my favourite bloggers - has recently launched an attack on Dominique Ng, the PKR state assemblyperson in Sarawak, to the shock of everybody else.

But that seems to have subsided somewhat, to the relief of all.

Sarawak is a vast state with a small population. Kuching City is a small town.

Everybody knows everybody else. Naturally, I get to know the true identity of most of these Sarawak bloggers, and their personal and political background, though I may not know how they look in person.

In Batang Ai, coverage for telecommunication and electricity supply is very restricted. I am told that the telecommunication tower there can provide for 200 mobile phone lines at any one time.

The number of rural Iban farmers outside the main town of Lubok Antu there with a PC at home must be infinitesimal.

Citizen journalism

This is a land where 56 of the 108 longhouses can be reached by river transport only.

Physical and telecommunication infrastructure there still remains in the dark ages of the 19th century. So much for politics of development touted by the BN!

So the Sarawak bloggers cannot campaign in Batang Ai like the Barisan Rakyat Bloggers did for the Pakatan Rakyat in West Malaysia.

What they can do very well is to influence the urban middle class Ibans in Kuching and elsewhere to influence their relatives in Batang Ai.

Blood is indeed thicker than water in the Iban community.

Naturally, if these Dayak bloggers can make frequent trips to Batang Ai and make on-the-spot reports about heartaches and dreams of the poor Ibans there with dramatic stills and video pictures to illustrate their point, it will be an invaluable service to the Ibans, to the nation, and to the entire world in fact.

Perhaps they are inexperienced in this aspect of citizen journalism. I do hope that RPK and his gang of Barisan Rakyat bloggers can make that trip to Sarawak soon.

A meeting between bloggers from both sides of the South China Sea may be an opportunity for learning from each other and the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Unfortunately, RPK is caught in the battle for his life in the court.

Judging from some recent judgement, to call our court a kangaroo Court is an insult to that harmless animal down under. With so much on their hands, there is serious doubt whether the Barisan Rakyat generals and soldiers can indeed go to Sarawak, what with the two Bukit by-elections held at the same time.

But I still value the contribution of the Sarawak bloggers. They are a new force, a digital civic society that accumulates social capital in Sarawak.

As we know, civic societies and the social capital that they generate are the pre-condition for the democratisation and the opening up of closed autocratic societies all over the world. Taiwan is the most recent example.

Public engagement, social activism, and citizen participation in the political process in any form is to be applauded.

Well done guys and girls in Sarawak! Your first big battle for a free Sarawak begins in Batang Ai.

Agi idup, agi ngeleban Raja Laut!

Just a few suggestions for people in N29 to judge:

(1) List out the companies who are given lands (NCR) to undertake large oil palm plantations in Simunjan, Sri Aman, Bintulu, etc.

(2) Who are their directors

Let N29 voters know that after 10 years of Oil Palm Development in Kanowit, how much dividend they received after all their getah had been fell.

Let N29 voters know what had happened to NCR lands and what will happen in future.

Let N29 voters know what were done after March 2008 in Perak - giving of lands to the poor & landless.

Let N29 voters know what Selangor Government exposed what the previous MB did to government agencies such as PKNS, what the present MB did to help the poor - free water, RM1,000 given to students when they go to Insitutions of higher learning, etc.

Any other materials/facts needs to be put on the "table" to enable N29voters to make a wise choice

why jabu each time together with taib in news, looked busy video taking the sorrounding? it made me wonder? is he taib's photographer ? He looked quite stupid doing thing like that whence he should projected himselves as the deputy, not as a cameraman of taib. quite shameful to look at.
taking video by taib's side and on the othyer hand taib stand out to the apploud of all present is very very .... ah what shall we call it? malu sangat. u dont have to downgrade yourselves to that level la tuai jabu.u r toimbalan ketua menteri bukan photographer. because if u r interseted in photographing, then step down as wakil rakyat.
but the funny thing is, if he were seen alone, tidak jugak dia bawa and ambil gambar, funny old man.
